A Prayer For The Thanksgiving Season

A Prayer for the Thanksgiving Season

Almighty Sovereign God, Creator of all humankind, I humbly request to enter into your divine presence. I am thankful for the gift of eternal life. Thank you for families and friends; thank you for churches, communities, and all nations of the world.

We are blessed to live in a time when technology and science have discovered medications that can cure cancer, manage diabetes and high blood pressure, prevent heart attacks, manage HIV/AIDS, and keep people alive whose kidneys have failed. Yet, oh Lord, there remains a large disparity between blessings from you and how they get filtered down to close the gaps in healthcare delivery; gaps that exist throughout the world including the United States of America, the richest country in the world.

Help us to remember that every good and perfect gift comes from you. Inspire everyone, especially those in power, to ensure that the poor who need medical help will have easy and free access to what you have provided. Have mercy upon all of us and help us to remember who’s in charge of everything and what role we have in helping bring your Kingdom closer to earth as it is in heaven.

We are blessed to live in a time when there is enough money for every human being to have decent housing, wholesome nutrition, healthcare, and good education. While some people have these blessings, there are too many people who do not.

While we enjoy thanksgiving fellowship and a hearty meal, keep the concerns of the poor and have-nots close to our hearts, not just today, but every day until as often quoted by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “justice rolls down like water and righteousness as an overflowing stream.”

Now, Lord, please bless the food we are about to receive, and may it nourish our physical bodies in such a way that it stirs our souls to higher levels of loving and giving. AMEN
