Breast Cancer

Years ago, a forty-year-old young lady scheduled an appointment with me because of swelling and bruising on her breast. She thought the swelling started after bumping into something. Upon observing her breast, I was almost lost for words and had to maintain my composure. It was apparent this did not start from a bump. The skin on the breast was dimpled and reddish orange in color, and I could see a lump protruding out of the breast skin.

My medical training said she had waited too late for cure. Despite my thoughts, I referred her to an oncologist. She followed his recommendations to have surgery and extensive chemotherapy and subsequently became cancer free. Following successful treatment, she would come to my office for her annual physical examination, and we’d rejoice together about her miraculous healing. She is a very fortunate lady with an excellent outcome despite waiting so long to be examined. What appeared to be inconceivable in my mind was made possible through God. Hear Jesus as he says to the disciples, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26, NIV).

Talk with your internist, family practitioner, or gynecologist about getting a mammogram. Most importantly, make the decision to eat healthy and get moving to lower your risk for getting breast cancer and live your best possible life.

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
