Go Forward, I Prepare The Way For You

Go Forward, I Prepare the Way for You

Forty years ago, while earnestly praying, I received a word from God that was crystal clear and brought me much peace. The message was, “Go forward, I prepare the way for you.” I heard no voice. It was as if the message was imprinted on my mind. This is the best way to explain the experience. I’ll also say, it has been the only personal divine message given to me this way.

Often, during my walk with the Lord, I hesitate in some action, and then remember the message, “Go forward, I prepare the way for you.” I relax and move forward.

When my relationship with God was not personal, I moved forward without thinking about decisions, guidance, or consequences. As a young college student, life just happened. For example, while it was my intention to go to medical school, my grades in college were not medical school quality. As a result, my medical school dream died.

A year of poorly compensated work at the Smithsonian Institution prompted me to try graduate school. My admission to Howard University (HU) graduate school was pro-visionary. I had to take graduate school courses for no credit. The embarrassment was almost more than I could bear. However, I persevered and accepted the challenge. By the middle of the first semester, my endocrinology professor encouraged me to apply to medical school. I forged ahead and applied to HU medical school and was accepted. The only requirement was to continue to maintain a high level of scholarship.

The Almighty Sovereign God was preparing the way for me every step of the way even when I didn’t realize it. When God says to move forward, go, for the way has been prepared. We need to trust God and walk by faith.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV).
