Life is in the Breath
The substance that distinguishes the living from the dead is the breath of God. In other words, you can live for days without water, food, or a low blood cell count. But it’s near impossible to live without breath for more than one minute.
Breath is critical to life. Unless we develop a condition that impairs our ability to breathe normally, we don’t have to think about it.
Consider taking time during your meditation and prayer time each day to practice deep breathing. Deep breathing helps you to relax. When we are angry or upset, our breathing becomes shallow, increasing anxious feelings more. The practice of taking deep breaths relaxes the muscles, including the heart and lowers the blood pressure.
Are you getting the most from the gift of breath? It’s a new year, a great time to start increasing your energy by taking time to take deep breaths at meditation time and periodically throughout the day. Life is in the breath!
“The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life” (Job 33:4, NIV).
