Making Preparation for the Lord
God chose a virgin named Mary to be the mother of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. An angel appeared to Mary to announce her divine gift. Mary’s initial response was innocent, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin” (Luke 1:34, NLT). She did not ask for proof or how she would know for sure. Once she was told that the power of God would overshadow her, Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant and I am willing to accept whatever God wants. May everything you have said come true” (Luke 1:38, NLT).
Mary’s joy burst into a song of praise and prophecy known as the Magnificat. Her song demonstrates the depth of her faith and relationship with God. I suspect Mary had spent a lot of her time with God. Her words were an ever-flowing stream of who God is. Mary sang about God’s endless mercy, concern for the poor, social justice, strong arm of protection, and great faithfulness.
The good news is that you too are God’s chosen vessel with a specific purpose to fulfill on this planet. How will you know your purpose? Like Mary, you have to trust God, take time to read the Bible, spend time in prayer and meditation. God will speak to you through the preached word and gospel music. Also, listen to your parents or a person God has placed in your life who serves in a parental role. God’s will for your life comes through parents, godparents, and godly people directed to you.
“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6, KJV).
