The Lenten Season

The Lenten Season

“Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ through whom we have gained access by faith unto this grace in which we stand” (Romans 5:1-2, NIV).

Do you remember when you committed your life to Jesus? Do you recall the time you made up your mind that you were going to serve the Lord? It was the beginning of an extraordinary and personal relationship similar to the beginning of a marriage.

As the above scripture points out, there were three components:

  1. The proposal — “Behold I stand at the door and knock.” Your response—Yes. God’s response—you are justified.
  2. The engagement — You receive your divine engagement ring. It’s during this time that you make peace with God and God makes peace with you.
  3. The marriage — You gain access to grace. You can come boldly to the throne of grace and see a glimpse of the glorious hope for what is to come.

Question: Are you still wearing your ring, or have you misplaced it? Have the cares of this world weakened your personal relationship with God? Do your eyes look more at the surrounding situations and less with eyes of faith? The Lenten Season is an excellent time to reflect on one’s personal relationship with Jesus and renew your marriage vows to the Lord.

“As Lent is the time for greater love, listen to Jesus’ thirst…‘Repent and believe,’ Jesus tells us. What are we to repent? Our indifference, our hardness of heart. What are we to believe? Jesus thirsts even now, in your heart and in the poor—He knows your weakness. He wants only your love, wants only the chance to love you.”
